Orthopedic Treatment for Accident Related Injuries

The medical specialty of orthopedics (orthopaedics) includes those physicians (sometimes referred to as orthopods) who treat fractured bones, torn or damaged ligaments and other portions of the knees, shoulders, hands, fingers, and other joints, and injuries to the discs or other components of the spine.  Some injuries of these parts of the body are also treated by other medical specialties, such as neurologists, neurosurgeons, etc.  Orthopedic treatment may include surgery, where appropriate.  Arthroscopic surgery is one type of surgery, which usually involves shorter recuperation time, and far less scarring than open surgery.  Orthopedic treatment often involves physical therapy, home exercise program, and other modalities aimed at restoring normal motion, eliminating or reducing pain, and restoring normal strength.
